Hemorrhoids are a part of human anatomy found in the anal canal. They act as cushions and support the passage of stool. Hemorrhoids are a normal part of our body system but can become problematic when they are swollen or inflamed.
There are two types of hemorrhoids, internal and external. Internal hemorrhoids are usually painless where as external hemorrhoids appear as lumps, bulges, blisters and rashes around the anus area and cause considerable amount of discomfort, pain and inflammation.

Internal hemorrhoids are located inside the rectum they lack pain receptors and are generally painless; most people don’t even realize that they have them. Internal hemorrhoids can bleed if irritated. Hematochezia (covering of bright red blood on stool) also known as toilet paper effect is the most common symptom of internal hemorrhoids. If left unattended hemorrhoids can become severe in the form of prolapsed or strangulated hemorrhoids. This indicates that as soon as you can come across any signs of blood on the stool, you may want to take immediate notice and take the correct measures to overcome it.

There are various causes associated with the formation of hemorrhoids; constipation, diarrhea, pregnancy, low fiber diet, prolonged abdominal pressure, genetics, aging and obesity are the major causes of formation of hemorrhoids.
Hemorrhoids can be prevented by keeping stools soft and easy to pass. Walking, exercise, high fiber intake are all methods of keeping stools soft by reducing constipation and strain on the anal canal. Emptying bowls as soon as urge occurs is also recommended to ease strain and pressure on the arterio-venous channels and connective tissue that form normal hemorrhoids.

There are many treatments and remedies for internal hemorrhoids. Increasing intake of dietary fiber which is usually lacking in people’s diet these days due to the low usage of whole grain foods, use of oral fluids (fruit juices rich in fiber and milk) to maintain hydration, anti-inflammatory drugs, sitz baths and rest are some of the most common remedies for internal hemorrhoids. Maintaining a high fiber diet is believed to be very therapeutic and can be achieved by introducing fiber supplements to diet. However, naturally intake of fiber is not hard, you can opt for whole grain cereals, brown bread, porridge etc to have adequate amount of fiber per day. In more advanced or severe cases of Hemorrhoids surgical procedures may need to be performed to overcome the issue, but this stage should and can be avoided, though Hemorrhoids can be a problem, it is not hard to take care of not having them altogether. However, if you do ever go through the experience of Hemorrhoids, make sure to do the above mentioned points and let surgery be the last option.
